Introduction
This character is for the RandomComp1. After numerous other chars, some of which were slated to do (like a lostsoul) and others that shouldn't have died (like a mimic), got this chap who has been doing well.
Haven't played an actual symbiant since who knows when, something like 2.1.2 probably. To keep this char from becoming the munchkinish mass-summoner she could and dominating the comp, I'm pondering not using Qs at all. Meanwhile she is rather limited; thanks to her very low stats all her symbiosis abilities have a fail rate of 95%.
Had a couple close calls with her, like Cave Spiders swarming and getting her to 0HP by the time she managed to get into a corridor (no teleport scrolls yet, just on BD2), and then with speed and luck managed to kill the last four of them without taking another hit. Then found Smeagol on the next level and lost most of my gold establishing that I wasn't powerful enough to kill him yet.
Several incredibly good things have already happened to her. She kept finding slime molds, and on the fifth one she got the Grow Mold ability! And as a symbiant! Yeah, her life is good. Then on BD7 had another close call, nearly got killed by a Death Sword (my symbiant brown mold saved me). Then I took delight in the fact that the Charm Never-Moving ability is long-range, since it took me nearly 30 tries to get it to work with that nasty 95% fail rate, but once I did get it, the Death Sword was mine! Heheheh. That'll make me very potent in melee for a while.
Meanwhile just blew all my cash away with shopping...I'm only twice as rich as some Pitiful-Looking Beggars.
Orc Caves is up next, and I'll be watching for any more Death Swords...Nasty things. Oh, and I'm looking to let mine (Pink!) sit by itself some and level up.
...After some time...
Still haven't levelled any symbiant, due to those 95% fail rates making it too hard to play around with Hypnotize and Release. However that will end now, since I just blew all my cash (again) on two Potions of Intelligence, and now my fail rates are down to 20%.
I had been using a Cloaker for the past little while, but the last trip in the Orc Caves got terminated when a Dark Elven Priest cursed it to death and prompted me to come back to Bree to pick up one of my three Death Swords. Cloakers and Death Swords are very powerful melee symbiants, but their HP is 49 and 36, respectively, so they die really easily and quickly become obsolete since many spells and breaths will knock them out in one blow. Dreaming of a Roper now...
...After some time...
Life is getting better and better. I found the junkart of Light Absorption and Genocide on the same dungeon trip, just when I recalled back to stock up prior to Deathwatch, and also found my one dungeon town on Orc Caves 19 that trip too. Then I breezed through Deathwatch, and came up against a wall with Azog since he was simply too powerful for meleeing, and would kill my symbiant. So I sat and thought about what to do, and then thought of my Gem of Hate {Light Absorption}. Heheh...Yeah, one blow and Azog was dead. Since then I've kept that junkart in my pack all the time, and use it on any unique that shows his or her or its face.
I've only used the Genocide junkart once so far, to get rid of a massive pesky swarm of novice rangers and novice mages I didn't want to bother cutting through.
Zero dungeon towns in Old Forest, so that trip was a waste, and Old Man Willow dropped some useless piece of equipment. Not quite as useless as that BD4 Princess reward that did nothing but sustain strength though.
Happily blasting through Mirkwood...then accidentally entered the Heart of the Earth thanks to some stair scumming. Decided to do the dungeon anyway, and tunnelled my way down to the bottom and shattered Golgarach with a nice blast of light. Then just before recalling I hit a trap of no return (go figure) and had to tunnel all the way back up to Mirkwood, then decided to try to go back out of Mirkwood the normal way, so starting Mkw 25, I worked my way back through. Then finally when I got to Mkw12 a dark elven priest dropped a Scroll of Word of Recall. I wanted to scream.
Meanwhile, I converted to Melkor and did his first quest. I doubt I'll manage to get all of them before I hit 50 though.
My preferential selecting of Daggers from the Princess finally paid off after lighting up Lorgan's carcass on Mkw27, as she gave me Narthanc. Problem is now that Maedhros was my only source of see invisible, so now I can't even see myself let alone all the ghosts and wraiths and Qs that oh so want to kill me. Trying to hang loose and let Narthanc pick up See Invisible, but I guess that is a fairly long shot in the dark. My best bet is to replace my Wooden Boomerang of *Slay Dragon*, as the only thing it is doing for me now is +2 con and sense dragons. Need an instrument of Power or the Eldar. Or some kind of better boomerang (*Defender* would be nice).
Used Thunderlord Nest to jump to the bottom of the Maze, found the Minotaur of the Labyrinth and left him sitting behind a wall. Then I tunnelled out a large area behind my and used my Iron Rod of Illumination to light it all up. When in a dungeon that doesn't have nice open lit areas for Light Absorption, make them! Then I tunnelled away the wall to let the Minotaur in and blasted him with light - One Shot Death. *evil grin*
I knocked off Eol. Light Absorption didn't quite kill him, so I shot my three confusion attacks at him and tried to get close. Fortunately he did nothing but blink around some before I got close enough to finish him off with melee. Next time will try to get out in the room away from the wall before using Light Absorption on him, so that it has more squares to draw from.
Well, I actually have some cash right now. All of 59,000.
Still finding lots of things to spend it on, (ie stat potions). Now my DEX is high enough that I can steal potions and rings that I want though.
Last comment: see that death fate? Urg.
...After not very much time...
Decided I wanted the Jewelry Shop in Gondolin. Went in with my light absorption, Genocide for the Hrus, Tidal Wave wands some spider potions, and two symbiants. It should have been easy. It was easy. Killed nearly everything, and was wandering around lighting up the place with my rod (should have just brought a Potion of Enlightemnent) to give Ulik a nice heavy knock-out blow with light absorption, and then he got too close and killed me. Meh. With negative ten hitpoints, and it was his last blow (bite) that did it, so if he'd just hit for 10 less or I'd had 10 more HP, I would have survived. And then I would have teleported and healed and killed him no fuss. To think that some people claimed that having 2000 HP wouldn't keep you alive if you'd die with 1000...a difference of 10 HP can save you.
