This could be a spell, a corruption-gained ability, or even a character-class (or race) ability: Aggravate.

This spell would be very similar to the existing Charm spell. The big differences would be:

At low spell level, the spell would be targetable on a single monster only, and would only work on "pack" monsters. (E.g., aggravate one Novice Mage in a pack of Novice Mages.)

At higher spell level, the spell might become a ball, work on any non-unique monster(s), and increase in duration.

Save(s) and limitations should be involved, of course: number of monsters affected by the ball, their monster level, their WIS(?), and perhaps the level of the caster. The more I think on it, this could be an extremely powerful spell.

TheFalcon: Hmm... It sounds an interesting idea, but possibly too similar to the existing charm spell??

NeilStevens: Bad name. We already have two 'aggravate' effects that aren't the same, so let's please not add a third.

TheFalcon: Two effects already? How do they differ?

NeilStevens: There's an aggravate spell/effect, that awakens all monsters within hearing range, plus hastes all monsters in LoS. There's also an aggravate player effect, that acts as an infinitely negative stealth, which has the effect of waking all monsters within hearing range. No hasting, though.

TheFalcon: Wow, you learn something new every day!!

LeonTorres: Hey, we could rename the second effect 'of Presence' or something similar. That would make this idea work, plus it could have two flavors, aggravating and presence.

OndrejSterbak: So if I get it right the aggravate flag on artifacts is "just" infinitely negative stealth? No hasting of monsters?

NeilStevens: Exactly.

OndrejSterbak: But it still affects your pets and companions, doesn't it?

NeilStevens: Fire up a Maia summoner and see, heh.
