Possibly, at some point if you complete all the God quests you whould recieve the lost relic. This may replace the last reward, or there might be a new quest where the relic is reforged. All relics are activation only items with the following properties.
- Tulkas- Activates for haste, stone skin, heroism, and impact branding of attacks (ala deamon blade).
- Eru- Activates for protection from evil, enlightenment, *identify* all items on the level and restore mana.
- Manwe- Activates for lightspeed and invulnerability.
- Yavanna- Activates for full healing, restoration, cure of black breath, and summoning of leveled aether hounds.
- Morgoth- Activates for genocide of all races on level with no HP cost.
(shouldn't it be Melkor?)
FearofFours: Heh that's odd; when I first coded the quest, you could either invoke the name of your God to collect the prayer reward, or you could keep the relic which had an (at the time undecided) activable power. Interesting idea, I'd like other people's feedback on these before I consider changing the quest. I'd also hat to lose the final prayer points when playing a priest..
TimmyBravo: Sounds cool. Although I think the Eru relic's *ID* Power would have the same problem as high-level Listen to the Music: if you ID all items on the level, and some monster happens to be carrying a cool trueart, and you leave the level without collecting it, you lose it forever.
- Demon Blade doesn't actually brand your weapon as such: it casts a ball-effect spell on the monster you just hit. I suppose it could be made to work if you project a GF_ATTACK spell. this would guarantee double blows, but you'd lose the small chance to triple damage that actual Impact branding gives you. The only other thing I can see is that you'd have to work out the recharge times quite carefully, as some of the relics have short-lived effects combined with heavy ones that would warrant longer recharges. (Manwe's relic sounds awesome, though.)
ReenenLaurie: Yeah *ID* all on the level isn't that great. I'd rather have it *ID* all in your inventory and radius 3 around you.
In general I think this is a great idea, and would really change the option of which God you chose initially. Invulnerability AND lightspeed is amazing. (Added to all the other advantages you already get). I think activating should cost piety. And for different gods different amounts.
NerdanelVampire: The problem I have with this idea is that it does nothing to address the not-fun aspect of the god quests while making them even more important. I don't think I can be the only one who prefers to leave the stupid relics in their tedious temples if at all practical. Additionally, since the gaining of god quests is dependent on the RNG, you are not guaranteed to get all five of them even if you solve successfully and without delay any you get. That is just unacceptable with hugely important, game-deciding objects. In fact I think there should be always a way to recover from any non-death setback. If your Ringil gets shattered you can get another cool sword, but if you plan your game on getting the final relic and fail at some point, there's no getting anything like it anymore.
ReenenLaurie: Point taken. I enjoy god quests, but I can see that people can find them frustrating. I agree there should be more oppertunities to get it. Which should go on and on even if you reach level 50 before getting every quest. Like after hitting level 50, every 500,000 XP (or suggestion) could give you a 1/3 (or suggestion) chance.
ShadUs: The relic quests would be a lot less frustrating if they were consistent... as stands I've had 3 relic quests before 15 and 1 by 35. Perhaps you get them at set levels... 10,20,30,40,50 and are just required to get one done before receiving the next it would be more fun or hell even just get the quests as soon as you start the game, god says, "An relic of mine was destroyed and separated into five parts, retrieve them and you will be rewarded" put them right in the quest book with the difficulty level associated with the particular area the temple is in. make them search a bit, they are LOST temples after all. You could make the reward worthwhile then too because you could count on people getting all 5 quests. ~shrug~
PatashuPatashu: How about every 8 instead of every 10 levels? 8, 16, 24, 32, 40. Lets you get the relic before maxing out and before the thunderlords thing.
ShadUs: Personally, I'd rather see it start higher than 8 only because at low levels classes like Yeeks and really even hobbits and humans tend to jump to level 7-8 almost immediately, sequence in the game would end up always being finish house, first level of bd, go do god quest, finish bd, go do god quest... I think the god quests would be immensely more survivable at >10 and the other fear for a yeek char is if the artifact is deep in then you might end up leveled past your second one before you get to the artifact in the first one. I also like ReenenLaurie's suggestion of being able to get them once you're already 50 too. That would alleviate the problem of making the reward something valuable too.
