PhineasButterfat: Why is it that all armor is one-size-fits-all? How can a hobbit and an ent wear the same leather armor? How about remedying this by associating a body size to each race and sizes to armor, and enabling a shopkeeper or other to tailor armor to the player's size for a fee? Under this system, a hobbit (body size extra small) might find a large suit of armor. He could then bring it to the tailor and pay for it to be made into an extra small suit of armor. The cost for such an alteration should be proportional to the value of the armor. Maybe this would just needlessly complicate things, but it could affect one's choice of a race. If more armor is found in size medium than in extra large or extra small, being a normal sized race could have an advantage. Also, if this system were to apply to artifact armor, perhaps a simple tailor would not be able to do the job, and the player would have to perform a quest to search for a legendary master armorsmith to get the artifact armor resized?

NerdanelVampire: I think ToME already generates too many items that have no real value except for specific classes (essences! I'm happy to see them gone in 3.0) or items that are just too lame to interest anyone ({good} armor in Angband). So I cannot agree with increasing dungeon litter, sorry.

kfoelsch: Seconded. Even by level 15 or so, the amount of trash you face can be really overwhelming. Just say NO to trash ;)

MayLith: While I find PhineasButterfat's idea quite laudable on the basis of realism, I completely agree with Nerdanel and kfoelsch that individually sized armour would drive us all collectively bonkers. However, maybe there might be some rather rare dungeon shops with Expert Armourers (Expert Tailors, Expert Shieldmasters, etc.. why not?) who might "fine-tune" the fit of a given piece, thus adding on some more AC points for a suitably exorbitant fee.... and of course, there's always the risk they could completely botch the job, too.... (To be fair, I think this has been suggested before, somewhere.)

BurbLulls: Perhaps these fine-tuners could even add an ego to the beginning of the armour (Gnomish soft studded leather, Dwarven chain mail) which would add the AC bonus to only the correct class(es). Of course, these egos would never be found naturally; I agree with no trashy trash. :)

RavenRed: Or, in another forumulation, perhaps it should just become another ego-item "Fitted Foo". Unable to be created by any other means than whatever quest/shop used to obtain it. Armour class is doubled/increased by 50%. If you want to get even more radical, you could make them artifact armours and when completed add a huge amount of AC, as it is SPECIFICALLY fitted to your body... just a few more cents worth...

MayLith: That was what I was trying to say, sorta. (I think doubling AC is a bit extreme, though.)
