I'd like to see monsters wearing (and even using) the stuff they carry.
If a possessed monster could use it, and they're carrying it, and they've got a slot that's available (or not as good and not cursed), they should probably wear it. (Yeah, this might be a headache to code.)
If the monster is intelligent and is carrying stuff and has a use for it, it should be able to activate/read/consume/whatever the stuff it's using. (Yeah, this would be even more of a headache to code, and would affect play balance in a significant way.)
This would give the game a richer feel, but would also make it so summoning pets and having them drop stuff would be less effective -- they're not going to drop the stuff they're wearing. Perhaps pets should be disallowed from wearing things they've picked up...
Another way to deal with the fact that the game currently allows "summon pet, drop stuff, dismiss" might be to give the pet a chance to go hostile if it drops something good. Perhaps chance should be gold value of item divided by (experience value of pet + gold value of item), for each item dropped. Maybe tweak that based on how altruistic the monster (paladins maybe should divide that chance by 10). [The idea here is that powerful pets are less concerned about equipment, and a powerful owner is more likely to awe the pet.]
This would make certain things a lot tougher (for example, the monster carrying the one ring would be a lot tougher to defeat), But epic battles should be... epic.
