Gaseous Potion

The liquid in the potion reminds you of the clouds above.

Upon quaffing, "You are suddenly full of hot air!", grant levitation for a while

Quicksilver Potion

The metallic liquid in the potion slips from side to side frictionlessly.

Upon quaffing, "You feel slippery!", speed boost (more then a potion of speed but not by too much) and free action for a while

Potion of Iron Stomach

The thick, viscous liquid in this potion seems somehow appetizing.

Upon quaffing, "Oof! Your digestive tract feels as cold as steel." Grants slow digestion, makes it harder to lose nutrition from throwing up, etc.

Potion of Pacifism

Staring into the fluid you see the reflection of your own soul. Drink and you will never fight again.

Apon quaffing, "A tear rolls down your eye and strikes the earth." Grant intristic no blows (!!). Don't allow it to appear in fountains since it's evil enough already

Potion of Hatred

The potion burns and flickers like an inferno. Are you really going to swallow that?

Apon quaffing, "The air around you heats to the point of irritation." Permanent aggravate monster, again don't pu it in fountains

IngeborgNorden: I'd add potions of holy/unholy water to the list; they can be drunk to quench thirst, with a *small* piety adjustment on the side (plus or minus one, depending on the drinker's faith). Their main use, though, would be as a thrown weapon: holy water dispels evil, unholy water dispels good (ignoring faction differences). For someone who wanted a "dispel all" or "disintegrate" effect (without instant death), I would also add Universal Solvent...very rare and expensive, of course.

Atarlost: How do you store a universal solvent? By definition it must dissolve glass bottles.

IngeborgNorden: Touché...call it Ultimate Solvent then; near-universal except for the material of the (specially treated) container.

Sirrocco: Alternately, enchant the bottle holding it to always project a curved forcewall along all surfaces. Make sure not to drink it, though. I think the aggravate/no-blows as temporary effects might be appropriate, but "grant this permanent intrinsic" doesn't really seem like a potion thing, except at the artifact level. If you wanted to make them artifacts granting unique corruptions, that might work (potion of troll's blood. Yum.) but they really ought to have *some* benefit in that case, even if it doesn't usually make up for the cost. No-blows, +wis and sustain wis, for example, from your deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you.

PatashuPatashu: Yeah, that'd probably work better. I just like the sound of ultradeath potions that render your character worthless. But who would quaff un-IDed at that level? (Anyone who's ever died from detonations, apparantly. :P)

Also, is there an equivalent of Fireproof Scrolls for Potions? Shatterproof? Freezeproof? Just plain ol' indestructible?

IngeborgNorden: I agree with Scirocco that potions which grant permanent intrinsics (other than garden-variety stat gain) ought to be artifacts. Of course, that would also make *Enlightenment*, Augmentation, and Ruination potions into artifacts; it would also justify boosting their power. Hmmmm...

Patashu: Well, some modules have both fireproof and indestructible sticks/spell books; why couldn't potions come in both shatterproof and indestructible ego-bottles? (My Ultimate Solvent would automatically come in an indestructible bottle, and therefore not need ego enchantments.)

ShrikeDeCil: There's a lot more flexibility in how things are 'classified' now. If I understand correctly, "Artifacts" are going to be dramatically restricted. A True Artifact is: unique - aka flippin rare, immune to normal damage, nearly immune (or better) to exotic types of damage, and legendary to the point of being useful at the end of the game. I think the LUAfication opens up space for "Miscellaneous Magic Items" though. Which aren't necessarily rare, or immune to incidental or purposeful damage, and can still have bizarre activations.

IngeborgNorden: I think the rarity/power definitions should be module-specific; some gameworlds might have few or no "generic" magical items. I'll be writing more about that in my own pages, though...
