KhymChanur: Magestaves and their egos in T3 don't do runecrafters much good unless they increase mana capacity:
- Runecrafting uses its own speed type, so the +3 to casting speed the basic magestaff gives doesn't help.
- Spellpower (from egos) doesn't apply to runecrafting.
- "Contains a spell" only works for school spells, not runespells.
So, some ideas to make magestaves more useful to runecrafters:
- The ordinary, base mage staff would give a +3 bonus to runecrafting speed in addition to its present +3 bonus to school spell casting speed.
- There'd be a rune magestaff which, similar to the elemental magic school staves, would give a boost to the runecrafting skill (though a smaller boost, since those staves only give a boost to one school of magic, while runecrafting is much more versatile.)
- An ego that could apply to either the base mage staff or the rune magestaff, which would let it contain a runespell like a runestone does.
- An ego which would apply only to rune magestaves, which would make the staff also act like a random rune, thus freeing up an inventory slot (if the player isn't afraid of the magestaff being destroyed).
DarkGod: Sounds good, but the ego to act as a random rune, it would be a specific rune yeah? Not like "joker rune"
KhymChanur: Yeah, I meant "ON_MAKE would select a rune at random" type thing, not a wild-card rune. Although that makes for an interesting idea: a type of rune that increases power and/or decreases failure rate, but selects a random damage or shape on each casting.
Derakon: You have to be careful whenever you give the player a random spell. They tend to either be too unreliable to ever use, or too useful to ever use anything else.
