MayLith: We already have traps that alter gender and height. How about traps that alter mass? I thought of this one after realizing that my current character is (after encountering a number of assorted traps) 82" tall and weighs 81 pounds. Yikes! (I've seen and heard of more extreme examples of this, of course.)
Slightly separate issue: Does weight have any affect on Bashing ability and/or Combat? Should it? Should a yeek and a half-troll with the same strength and weapons skills be able to deliver the same damage with the same weapon?
MassimilianoMarangio: Weight has no game relevance, and the passage in Documentation/Characteristics (birth.txt) about bashing and weight capacity is wrong.
MayLith: Ah hah! Thanks. I'll put that on my list of Documentation to-do...
Still... height has no game relevance, either, so I'll leave my suggestion as-is. (What the hay.)
Dryad: Maybe we'll find the opposite kind of trap on the black market soon enough; just like the gender traps this is cosmetic but annoying and many would pay 600000 gp to get back to normal! (it would also explain WHO makes gender traps and why...)
MayLith: Modemcable, PLEASE either prefix your posts with your name, or sign them, or somehow otherwise set off your writings from other peoples'. I do NOT appreciate your adding text in such a fashion as to make it appear as my own.
Dryad: sorry!
MayLith: Apology accepted, conditional upon your continuing to use your name in your posts. I have to tell you that I'm VERY irked about this... and others have been, too, if you will look at RecentChanges.
That said, I really *DO* welcome your contributions to the wiki.... just, puh-lease, make sure they are indicated as your own, when in a discussion format. Thanks. (And by the way, that idea about the gender traps is funny/cool....)
IngeborgNorden: Even if some character stats are purely cosmetic, some of them (especially height and weight) can look ludicrous to the player after a few traps too many. If the game engine could store "miscellaneous birth stats" in special variables, and if some "Restore Original Body" magic existed--I bet players would fork over good (game) money for that, as Dryad said.
NeilStevens: Well, I'm not adding it to ToME 2, and ToME 3 ought not have these traps at all, so it won't be a problem I imagine.
IngeborgNorden: Thank goodness for that; cosmetic stat-tweaking is just as inappropriate for Norseband as it is for ToME proper. (Both games will have gender-restricted races, and Norseband will have gender-restricted classes as well). If someone else wants those traps back in, they shouldn't be too hard to code (just one variable to reset).
