BitsySpider: This is a rehash of the old spells suggestion list split into four groups: Complete schools which, in my anything but humble opinion, don't need more spells, Incomplete schools which could use a little sprucing up, Divine Magic, and Other (including new schools and things like Demonology and Udun, which don't fit the paradigm).
Schools
Conveyance
Unerring Return (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 12 Conveyance
- While the spell is active, all thrown objects and/or ammunition fired automatically return to the player unless they break.
Fading Hit Stance (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 15 Conveyance
- If the player is hit with a physical attack, they are immediately teleported a short distance.
- The spell ends if any other spell is cast.
BitsySpider: Again, designed for archers who want to spend time shooting instead of phase dooring.
Seal Gate (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 20 Conveyance
- Prevents lower level enemies adjacent to you from summoning.
- At level 20 Correspondence skill teleports away all summoned monsters in sight.
- At level 20 Correspondence and Time skills, no non-unique monster of lower level on the level may summon.
BitsySpider: Would require the creation of a !summon flag for monsters. More or less equivalent in principle to the sterilize spell. Note that since it's lower level only, it's more of a convenience than a lifesaver.
Distant Breath (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 20 Conveyance/Air
- Grants ability to breathe without air for a short time.
LordEstraven: I think this is unnecessary, as L50 Air gives instrinsic MAGIC_BREATH.
BitsySpider: There's a big difference in investment between 50 Air and 20 Air, maybe even just 1 Air if the character has big Conveyance or vice versa. Not truly necessary, no, but neither is Vapor. Both have their uses, though.

Earth
Calm Earth's Anger (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 10 Earth
- Changes all visible lava squares into normal floor squares.
- If caster's Fire is greater than 10, changes all lava squares on the level into normal floor squares.
Eternal Mountain Stance (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 15 Earth
- All melee damage inflicted on the character is reduced.
- The spell effect ends if another spell is cast.
Clear Path (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 30 Earth
- Creates a ball effect version of dig that also works on ice walls, trees, etc...
- If it destroys trees, Yavanna doesn't get angry.
Nature Heal (by PatashuPatashu)
- Base level 30 Earth
- Absorbs trees and small trees adjacent to you, restoring HP appropriately.
LordEstraven: Geomancy does something much like this already.
BitsySpider: The Geomancy ability absorbs a patch underneath you, which is a lot more difficult to do logistically. Just looking at this spell, though, it cries out to be a Nature spell instead, and that would make it redundant with the more straightforward healing spell already in that school.
Earthshaper: Earth School Spell, Level 45 (by BurbLulls)
- Recreates the current dungeon level, a la Bard song Ambarkanta.
Landslide: (by Orvin)
Orvin: Target a mountain square and cause a landslide within a skill- and spell-power dependant radius. The landslide has the following effects: 1) monsters in the radius take damage, 2) empty squares within the radius are covered with debris (also killing trees), 3) squares containing objects are covered with debris, with a chance that the objects are damaged or destroyed.
So, this is an area-effect spell, but it can only be used in the vicinity of certain terrain.
If the landslide behavior is introduced, is might also be interesting to allow the possibility that sound, force, gravity, and water attacks affecting mountain squares cause landslides.
Perhaps, there could also be a new trap, only occuring adjacent to mountain squares, which, when triggered, causes a landslide.
Eat Wall (by ShoOb)
- Base Level 30 Earth
- Allows the player to Eat walls and debris, restoring lost hit points and satiates player.
- Also damages rock based monsters; damage and hp restored increase with level
- At lvl 10 it becomes a ball (rad 1) spell centered around the player
- At lvl 20 it can also consume mountains
Fire
Cauterize: Fire School Spell, Level 9 (by BurbLulls)
- Cures cuts.
- At level 15 provides temporary resistance to fire.
Blazing Fire Stance (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 15 Fire
- For a short duration the character makes spell level/5 additional melee attacks.
- The spell effect ends if another spell is cast.
RavenRed: Taking a leaf from the Absorb Light Spell (and from the LoTR movie scene of Gandalf facing down a Winged Horror with his flashlight-staff.
Fire of Mithrandir by RavenRed
Dual School (Fire / Mana) 15, Mana Cost = 10 +1/Level
"The light around you is absorbed, and released into a poweful bolt!"
Absorbs 1+(Spell Level/7) Radius of light in a radius around the player, delivering the (number of lit squares)d5+(SpellLevel/3) in damage.
This starts off at a base damage of 8d5 (Yes, it's low for a L15 spell) and moves up to a max damage of 84d16. Since this is dependent on lit areas, and characters would have to "recharge" the previously lit in between uses, it would be a useful, though not absolutely dependable weapon to use.
Can anyone point me to the source code for the junkart activations?
2cworth and counting...
MassimilianoMarangio: Search in cmd6.c for do_cmd_activate for the function and ACT_LIGHT_ABSORBTION for the light absorbtion activation.
PermanentInk: Isn't it "Mithrandir?" That's the spelling I recall. Google has about 60 times more hits for it.
NerdanelVampire: You are right. The correct spelling is "Mithrandir" with two r's.
RavenRed: Mea culpa! Mea culpa! Mea culpa!
Servant of the Secret Fire (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 30 Fire/Mana
- Player must be praying (not to Melkor!) or spell fails.
- The next damaging attack that hits the player deals damage (x10) to piety, not hp.
BitsySpider: Gandalf mentions it in his fight with the Balrog. Should it just be a Mana spell?
The Flame of Anor (by BitsySpider, not sure on the spelling)
- Base level 40 Fire/Eru
- Player must be praying or spell fails.
- Deals holy fire damage to an adjacent target.
BitsySpider: Would use an equal amount of mp and piety to cast. Again, something that Gandalf mentions in the Balrog fight.
Mana
Mystic Stance (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 15 Mana
- Damage taken goes to mp instead of hp.
- Cannot cast spells while it is active.
BitsySpider: Eru Priest melee spell, more or less.
Empower (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 30 Mana
- Adds to area mana (to allow inscriptions, etc...)
Retributive Strike (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 50 Mana
- Doesn't technically cost mp.
- Reduces caster's current mp and hp to 1 and inflicts their sum in damage to a large radius.
Meta
Runic Stance (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 15 Meta
- Increases damage of melee attacks, but consumes area mana. If area mana drops to 0, spell ends.
- Spell ends if any other spell is cast.
Fundamental Gift (by BitsySpider)
- Base level 50 Meta
- Extremely expensive (300+ mp)
- Extremely short duration, duration does not improve
- While active, player can cast any non-God spell as if he/she had a 50 rank in that school.
