Christopher: Now here's a random idea. A module based on the game (TV series, movies...) Pokemon!
All monsters are changed to pokemon, and you can 'catch' them with a new item that turns monstersinto pets. You can also choose which pokemon to play as, but there is only a few classes. Pathetic huh?
NeilStevens: It'd just be an elaborate version of Symbiosis. Not pathetic at all.
SoulWynd: Symbiosis would have lil to do with it. I think what he meant was something more like a charm spell called pokeball that works better when the monster is hurt... Or something like that... At least it would be similar to the games... Yes yes, I have played those and I gotta admit, they're fun to carry around (unlike the anime).
NeilStevens: In game terms, what's the difference between releasing a monster from a ball, and releasing one from hypnosis?
SoulWynd: You can't wear a ball *g*
If you can.... well... I will restrain myself from commenting. But yeah, that would be the similarity with symbiosis, the rest wouldn't be there.
Christopher: I was thinking more of charming monsters and them following you around, though one or two symbiotic effects or summonings might be in play. A pokeball would just be an item that used the charm spell when thorwin, and the chancg would depend on character level. I'm surprised any people who play roguelike would also play something as simple and easy as pokemon!
MassimilianoMarangio: You may want to check the Angband variants Hengband (with its "Capture Balls") or Animeband for some ideas...
Dryad: what about copyright issues? I remember when ToME had those... and we switched over to Tolkien... don't want history to repeat!
Christopher: Hmmm... well copywrite is not much of a problem, as I don't actually intend to make such a module anytime soon, due to my lack of expertese. PLus I'm working on another mod anyway. It was just an idea. I have lotss of ideas. (Of course if someone else wants to make it I have plenty of ideas... ;-))
MayLith: My gut instinct says don't touch it with a 100' pole.
NeilStevens: One nice part of the module system is that someone could ship it without anyone else having a problem.
Christoper: You see here a 101' pole (+0, +1). Now wielding a 101' foot pole. You hit the idea. You die. Darn you were right! :P
ReenenLaurie: You'll need bigger plusses to hit, how about a +40 or so.
Christopher: Who said I was aiming for the idea! (actually that's an idea. If you have a really bad to-hit bonus then ou might hit a monster next to the target instead of the target... hmm...)
