RogerBarnett: Just a quick idea... after you've destroyed the One Ring on Mount Doom and left (assuming you don't kill him there), Sauron is an absolute bugger to find. I speak from experience, having destroyed the One, being forced to recall out, coming back to Mount Doom and finding Sauron gone from there, and being reduced to literally hours of level-scumming in Angband to try and find him.

Being one of the big bads of the game, even after you've destroyed the One, Sauron should appear far more frequently than he does - it shouldn't have to be a challenge to *find* Sauron by endless level generation - the challenge should come in killing him.

NeilStevens: He's actually just an ordinary unique by that point. The rationale DG gives me is that he's hiding. I'd add that without the One, his power is weak, and he has to hide out to save up enough strength to fight you.

RogerBarnett: True enough, but it just seems wrong to me somehow. The endgame should be about boldly taking on the big bads... not endlessly level scumming in Angband just trying to catch a glimpse of them. At least IMHO :)

NeilStevens: I agree, but as I imply above, I confronted the illustrious maintainer about this and got told it was intentional. I think the goal is to make you spend more time in nasty, nasty Angband. Feel glad to have ESP, I guess.

RogerBarnett: This particular char *does* have Evil ESP... but hasn't caught so much as a glimpse of Sauron. *growl*

MayLith: /me bops RogerBarnett across the head with a balloon and thusly invests him with all sorts of good luck to find the Ring of Precognition. (Which I actually found, once.)

RogerBarnett: No way is that gonna happen :) Already found Ringil (first ever find), which got my through the midgame - the RNG won't be so nice twice :)

MayLith: Good luck with it, anyway. My current character has found Narsil and Ringil (not to mention a few other things) and I'm just waiting for the RNG to get her.

RogerBarnett: UPDATE - Over a *month and a half* later, and I still haven't found Sauron. I realise that he's supposed to be hard to find - but this is ridiculous. Perhaps a modification? You can't descend below Level 99 of Angband until you've destroyed the One Ring... and if Sauron isn't dead yet, he'll be found on Level 127 of Angband. Means more dungeon crawling, but it means you'll actually find the git!

NeilStevens: If you can't find Sauron, check the Cracks of Doom.

NerdanelVampire: In case you are playing Theme, check out Utumno.

RogerBarnett: I'm playing normal ToME. Sauron did appear on Mount Doom, before I destroyed the One, but I had to recall out. When I came back the next time - he was not there. I killed every single monster on Mount Doom - Sauron is not there. He refuses to appear in Angband either. The illustrious DarkGod has said that once the One is gone - Sauron becomes a normal unique, and can appear anywhere below level 98. But though I've seen all of the Nazgul - no Sauron :(

TimmyBravo: If I destroy the one ring, can I get Sauron to reappear on Mount Doom? (Provided, of course, I can get Mount Doom 99 to regenerate. :) )
