KhymChanur: Currently, when hallucinating or having low sanity, looking at a monster can describe it as something silly, like "IRA Terrorist" or "Klingon". So why not do the same for items? This would apply every time the description for an item had to be presented to the player, so it would pop up for items on the ground, in character inventory/equipment list, home inventories, and store inventories. (I have no idea if 3.0.0 can handle this) There'd be different silly words for base item types, prefix egos, and suffix egos; replacing each or not would be rolled for independantly, so you probably won't see all three replaced for a double ego item (unless you have low sanity and are hallucinating). But in extreme case you would get things like "Stinky rubber chicken of the Wild West" (for a double ego weapon), or "Penny loafers of Disco Dancing" (for ego footwear).
It shouldn't affect game play that much, since for inventory and equipment lists you could just escape from the list and do it again to see what the thing really is. (Hmmm, I guess you'd have to hide the incscriptions when hallucinating about items) However, if an item in inventory or equipment was destroyed and mis-seen, you'd have to remember what you used to have to be able to figure out what was destroyed.
SimonSorc: I can't wait to see myself in "pink bunny slippers of great luck" after fighting some "klingons". Also quaffing a "Pan galactic gargle blaster {funky}" sure beats "A red potion {tried}".
At sanity less than 5, we could even see monsters that aren't there! Muahaha.
LordEstraven: I dunno. This has the potential to get quite silly, but I'm not sure we all want silliness... IMHO, the effects of insanity and hallucination should be changed to be less ridiculous and more sinister. For example, terrain should appear to change, you should see tunnels that aren't there and not see ones that are, monsters should appear behind you and then disappear, your equipment list should lie, etc...
ElvishPillager: Save that for insanity. IMHO, insanity should be nasty, letting hallucination be just silly.
