RavenRed: Just a Minor Idea... as a quest reward, you get a set of armour specifcially tailored to your build and height (possibly a good Troll's Quest reward). The effect of this is a highly specialised and effective set of armour that becomes a unique "mundane" artifact set (although I'd prefer to make it a SPECIAL_GENE ego-type).
Legend: W = Weaponmastery, A = Archery, M = Magic, ST = Stealth, D = Disarming, B = Bowmastery
Name |
AC |

Tailored Full Plate Armour |

BLUNT=21 SLASH=21 PIERCE=21 SHARDS=10 ELECTRICITY=-9 |
W=-2.000, A=-2.500, M=-3.500, ST=-3.000 |

BLUNT=4 SLASH=4 ELECTRICITY=-2 |
D=-3.000 B=-0.500 |
As you can see, these values represent a slightly better version of their Pipedream equivalents. However, when worn together, they yield additionally:
- Resists: Blunt + 5, Pierce +2, Slash +5, Fire +10, Cold +10, Acid +10. This gives the player a base resist of BLUNT=30, PIERCE=23, SLASH=30, SHARDS=10, ELECTRICITY=-16 (bit of a bugger there, but...) FIRE=10, COLD=10, ACID=10. That's a pretty good set of "mundane" resistances!
- +5 AC, giving a base (unenchanted) AC of 38.
- Additional Skill Bonuses (which are only really offsetting penalties) of +1.000 Weaponmastery and +1.000 stealth.
- +1 to speed (which once again is only offsetting a penalty)
As you can see, this isn't necessarily an end-game set (although if you can stumble on a COUPLE of Artifact creation scrolls...) but provides a nice, usable equipment set for mid-game pure fighter-types.
2c worth and cuonting...
LogrusMage: If traps and other wierdness change your height, weight, etc, does it screw up the armor?
TimmyBravo: Having read your Pipedream idea, wouldn't it make sense for a character to receive a set of items appropriate to his/her/its class? For example, a Rogue would receive lighter armour (soft leather) that increases Stealth, boots that do the same, and gloves of FA (or that increase DEX). This could even be extended into weapons; an Axemaster could get a nice, er, axe, or an assassin could get a dagger that reduces effective monster AC for its blows (bypassing armour to some extent, not entirely though.)
RavenRed: True, but this is already (to a lesser extent) accounted for in the Skill "preference" for different quests. The Troll's quest is not particularly subtle, though (hack, slash, hack, slash)
a third, stealth-based quest would probably be a good idea, based on Sneakiness. I don't think a grab-bag of goodies is quite appropriate for a thief, especially considering that the Tailored Armour is theoretically "one" item. An interesting dilemma though, I agree.
