Hello. My actual alias I use online is KiTA, but due to technology limitations, we'll go with this.
I have become re-enamored with TOME lately. I have had one winner, Baewan, the Warper/Thaumaturgist. Died to Water hounds (the bane of all players everywhere) in the Nether Realm.
I'd like to take up the TOME source code but I don't know LUA yet, and it's been 6+ years since I touched C++. What I'd like to add is a "Show Viewed Items" window mode (similar to the "Show Viewed Monsters" window mode) and maybe a joke (or serious, who knows) monster or two.
The monster type I wanna add is the Auxon Golems, based off the idea of a Clanking_replicator (also known as "Von Neumann Machines or "Universal Constructors") by John von Neumann -- machines that create copies of themselves, provided they can find the correct raw material.
In game, there would be several sub types, each with a different raw material. Flesh Auxon Golems would eat corpses (and target enemies and players to get them), Bone Auxon Golems would target undead or skeletons, Iron Auxon Golems would crush items (either all items or just some types), Stone Auxon Golems would eat walls. The effects in game would be that Auxon Golems start with 0 SP (and cannot regen), instead gaining SP whenever they "feed" -- the amount would be based on the weight of the item they consume. Once they have enough SP, they calve -- casting a spell that summons another Auxon golem (small chance of mutation). Greater Auxon Golems would summon more than one Auxon at a time (perhaps summoning the weaker ones). There would be a Unique, as well -- Von, the Auxon Lord, who can eat anything (including other Auxons) and has a much lower casting cost for his spells. Heck, for a lark, maybe unlike other Uniques, Von can summon more copies of *Himself* (or, perhaps, he can summon a special mob called "A cheap knockoff of Von, the Auxon Lord".)
The concept is a somewhat popular one in Science Fiction -- that is, creating a Von Neumann-based probe, launching it at a nearby star, having it get as much raw material as possible, then launching copies of itself to other stars. The theory being that it would have an AI and have some way to communicate with civilizations it finds, or otherwise communicate back the information it obtains.
Characters
All my dumped characters are listed here. Interesting ones are mentioned below.
Baewan, Vampire Petty-Dwarf Warper Winner. Died to some water hounds in the Nether Realm. Was woefully unprepared for what I ended up finding down there. In the chaos, also forgot about Eru's ability to remove curses (through Mana school spells) and to remove blindness, which would have saved him.
Bejik, Kobold Monk. In his second incarnation. The unfortunate victim of a DiTL thread about his adventures.
