DarkGod: In order to make wilderness travel more "realistic" (no do not flee) I'd like to know how long it should take for a travel(on foot) from bree to rivendell? I don't have the books handy here to check :/
NerdanelVampire: I don't remember exactly, but it's supposed to be weeks... Middle-earth is a big place. I think that's way excessive for ToME.
DarkGod: For hobbits yes, I mean for normal people, the kind that does not stop to play with wigths and other nazguls
Anyway worry not, it will acutally be better for the player because I'm adding and "auto-eater" to the wilderness map travel, so that you dont have to get annoyed every two steps. If you have food(or spells/scroll/...) it will use them. But I really want the travel to work on a more logical scale
NeilStevens: With an auto-eater it shouldn't be too hard. With riding travel should become easy.
DarkGod: Indeed, but how long is it supposed to take ?
Atarlost: The southern edge of Mirkwood is 20 days from Osgilliath according to the account of Isildur's death in the Unfinished Tales. From Bree to Imladris looks to be about three quarters the distance assuming Isildur followed Anduin so call it a fortnight minimum on foot. Dunedain of that era are described as taller than anyone but the noldor and so presumably faster on foot over long distances. This isn't a forced march, but it is trained infantrymen.
DarkGod: Right thanks man
So it places one wilderness map square at about 1 day
NerdanelVampire: Looking at the Book of Years, Frodo & co. travelled from Bree to the ford of Bruinen in 20 days, including all the delays for not using the road and the maximal hurry for most of the trip and the use of Glorfindel's horse later on. Frodo & co. took 23 days from Rivendell to Bree on their way back while riding on ponies but not in a particular hurry.
BucketMan: I realize this is vague, but in terms of 'game' it might be interesting to set things up such that simply walking or riding to Rivendell isn't as simple as just, well...walking. The long path could be frought with some sort of danger, or obstacle, and players would choose whether to take the long way around, or the direct route through Mirkwood forest. Just a thought.
DarkGod: Mirkwood ? between bree and rivendell ? ermm
Atarlost Meybr he's thinking of the old forest between the shire and bree. Of course that wasn't on the direct route so unless you're being chased by nazgul there's absolutely no reason to go anywhere near it.
BucketMan: Hmm. Sorry. I just looked it up. I was confusing Elrond's elves with Thranduil's.
DarkGod: Thought so ;>
