NeilStevens: Arda is my module for ToME 3, still in development, that attempts to make a better ToME.
I'm re-writing the monsters list from scratch to make a steadier power rise while staying in-theme. Trolls should be scary, Balrogs should be awesome, and Dragons should be about the most powerful monsters in the game. Almost everything on the side of Morgoth should be evil and/or corrupted.
I'm re-writing the items list from scratch for many reasons. I want to eliminate junk, make a more-interesting weapons list (to take pity on the poor Axemasters), make artifacts rarer and more useful, and re-do the ego list.
I'm expanding the map and adding many more towns.
The game has a long way to go, though. With everything else I do for ToME (like setting up this wiki), Arda keeps getting put off.
The latest Arda sources are available in my GNU Arch archive neil@hakubi.us--terminus in branch arda--mainline. neil@hakubi.us--terminus is available at http://www.hakubi.us/arch/terminus/
There is some discussion of the module at GeneralDiscussion/Arda musings
NeilStevens: Arda probably won't ever go anywhere, mostly because enough of the ideas will eventually be incorporated into ToME 3.
CeiltiCahill I have to say how sorry I am to hear this pessimistic view! I've been following rumours and news of Arda for years and it seemed to incorporate so many things that I would love to see. It's not that I don't trust those developing ToME 3, and I know very little about it, but are you sure many of Arda's characteristics are being incorporated?
NeilStevens: Well, months have passed, but now I can say I know many of Arda's characteristics are being incorporated because I see them in action. The ToME race list is beautiful, with only good races. The item list I'm writing myself, so I KNOW it's the way I'd like it. The monster list is being completely overhauled, too.
