Races
Human
- I think we can keep humans at +0 to all stats and 100% exp, but some changes might be in order.
Garuda
- Birdmen from the western deserts.
- +1 Str, +1 Int, -3 Dex (wings and claws), -1 Con (hollow bones), +2 Chr.
- Can fly. Some modifications may have to be made to flying to keep this from being unbalanced.
Khepri
- Red-skinned humanoids with giant scarab beetles for heads.
- Only females a playable; the males are just huge, nonsentient beetles (and should probably appear as annoying but fairly harmless monsters).
- +2 Dex, -1 Con, -1 Chr.
Vodyanoi
- Froglike humanoids.
- Need to bath once per 24 hours or more frequently - not sure how this would be handled. They can circumvent this requirement by making a deal with an Undine (a water spirit), but Vodyanoi shouldn't start out with one.
- Innately capable of sculpting water into a form that (temporarily) holds its shape. No idea how to implement.
- +1 Dex, +1 Con, -2 Chr.
Cactucae
- Huge cactus-people.
- +5 Str, -4 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Chr. An experience penalty might be in order (IIRC they're long-lived so it would make some sense).
- High AC (with level, as for Ents?) would cover the resistance to small arms fire and whatnot seen in the books.
- On second thought, higher HP would fit better.
Cray
- Like centaurs, but with the lower bodies of huge crayfish.
- Have gills, and should get intrinsic water breathing.
- For obvious reasons, cannot use and do not need footwear.
- -3 Dex, +2 Con
- Perhaps shell on lower body should add to armor class?
Wyrmen
- Basically yeeks with wings.
- -5 Str, -7 Int, -3 Dex, -6 Con, -6 Chr. Low exp requirement.
- Can fly. Other than that, absolutely pathetic.
(More to come at some point...)
Subraces
Vampyr
- Like ToME vampire subrace
- Applicable to humans, vodyanoi, cray, wyrmen, perhaps garudas
- Damaged by sunlight (or other bright light)
- Cast spells at higher power level
- Must consume hemoglobin-containing blood (duh)
- When well fed, have intrinsic strength, dexterity, and speed boosts; however, lack of blood causes them to become slow and very weak (and perhaps should damage intelligence as well)
- Vampyrism is a bacterial infection - characters who are bitten by a vampyr should have a chance of contracting the infection, and a chance of becoming vampyrs if they survive
