Mike the Monk The idea is that after a long session of ToME the player is left feeling angry and stressed. Leaving the house and going around corners is a heavy, stressful event. So you play Chill Out ToME for ten minutes. What is different is that monsters no longer have life points that are reduced but rather Stress Points that need to be reduced. Melee attacks no longer Hit to Damage but now Seek Common Ground, thus reducing the stress levels of monsters. A Monks attacks would look like this: You Hug to reduce Stress, Congratulate to reduce Stress, Pat on the Back to reduce Stress, It was a really good Pat on the Back!. Spellcasters can conjure Love Bolts, Peace Balls and do Mass Time Outs (Mass Genocide).
Traps would work in completely the opposite manner, they in fact give bonuses and if you have a high Set Off Trap skill (instead of Disarm) you win a prize.
You also have Stress Points and can Quaff Potions of Chill and Chill Max to destress. Monster attacks now also destress you. You start in a room with Sauron, thus eliminating the Stress of finding the One Ring, and the game only lasts for five-ten minutes before your character is destressed. Then you quit and enter the real world happy and peaceful.
While some ideas here are for a joke, I would prefer to play a game like this, where instead of killing I have to make peace with as many monsters and RETURN the One Ring to Sauron.
Now that would be a better experience for all.
IngeborgNorden: Great minds think alike, Mike...I've joked about creating a Cuddlyband dominated by cute, friendly monsters who "curl up and fall asleep" after being completely de-stressed. Imagine this de-stressing sequence:
The Care Bear points at you and murmurs 'AWWWW!' -more- There is a cozy rainbow aura surrounding you... -more- The Care Bear hugs you. -more- It was a *GREAT* hug! -more- You feel too comfortable to resist the Care Bear! -more- The Care Bear looks at you tenderly and whispers, 'Good night!' -more- You curl up and fall asleep.
