Coldfire

I (NerdanelVampire) gave this module idea some serious thought, but decided to go with Modules/Zothiqband instad. Anyone is free to implement and improve on this.

World

The game takes place on an alien world called Erna. Human settlers arrived here several centuries previously, only to be surprised by Erna's unusual properties. The humans were almost destroyed and lost most of their technology, which they have only recently started to recover. But they have also discovered magic and the powers of various godlings. Erna is a place where the world can respond to thoughts and beliefs, up to and including creating gods for one to worship.

Weapons are mainly medieval. Firearms exist, but they are unreliable, and may blow up unless you control your subconscious. (There could be a skill for this.)

Magic

On Erna magic (fae) is an external substance that flows like liquid. Human practitioners use this earth fae and the power of their spells is dependent on the concentration of fae. Damage spells flow best downstream in the fae, and detection spells detect what is upstream.

Spell: Sacrifice. You destroy an item and use the power to cast another spell you know. This is a low-level spell that can get really powerful with a high skill and item worth. Sacrificing cheap items is essentially useless with this spell.

Rakh practitioners use the tidal fae, which does not flow but changes in power constantly with the time (lots of die sides), and faeborn creatures have their own innate powers.

Some rare objects can store fae for future tapping.

Spell: Knowing (or similar). Gives an nonadept a momentary picture of fae in the area.

Special

Depending either on a virtue system or the combination of the player's class, subrace, and wisdom, faeborn creatures of varying type will appear at times near any human player character, summoned by the darkness in their subconscious.

Coldfire should be implemented as a damage type.

Plot

There are several villains that need to be gotten rid off (the Hunter and the Undying Prince, just to mention the most prominent two) and an invasion to be prevented. Gradually you begin to notice the influence of Callesta behind the scenes. You need to kill Callesta to save the world, which is kind of difficult, since he regenerates from your violent thoughts. Finally you hear the terrible news: someone has named the Unnamed, and it has decided to invade Erna to cover it in eternal suffering. You are the only one who can stop it.

Chatter

MariAi: One thought for the magic system (maybe not possible) is to have the fae work as a cross between the floor inscription system and geomantic elements. That is, a new element that can be present in the dungeon in patterns like lava/water and has a counter that tells to what extent it can be used like the floor inscriptions. For an extra bonus it should be invisible except for adepts (preferably separated from see invis). One would also need to separate the different types of fae and give them different possible spells.
