Elements
Magical elements like disenchantment are obviously out of theme here. Here is a suggestion for a more suitable "element" list. Note that several elements are uncommon on Snowglade.
Low-tech
- Electricity (important like fire in ToME; destroys delicate circuits)
- Fire
- Cold
- Acid
- Shards
Electromagnetic
- Microwaves (basic mech attack; good against mechs, at least the simple ones)
- Infrared (may blind sensors)
- Laser
- Ultraviolet
- Gammarays
High-tech
- Poison (nastier than ToME poison; may decrease stats)
- Sound
- Plasma
- Neutrons
- Disassemblers (nanites) (also degrades equipment like disenchantment)
- Disintegrators (nanites) (also destroys stuff on the floor and has a chance of making a hole in the wall)
Mind attacks
- Blindness
- Confusion (might produce messages about "purple bees" or some such)
- Hallucination (should preferably also do things like affect perception of the terrain; there could be multiple levels of hallucianating)
- Suredeath (sucks out your mind and kills you; you NEED to resist this)
- Paralyzation
- Self-harm (temporal possession to do physical damage)
Exotic physics
- Tidal Forces (gravity)
- Positrons
- Pure Time (inertia)
- Esty Fog
- Liquid Time (the nastiest sort of time)
Side Effect Avoidance
There is no fixed percentage of resistance that provides protection from an "elemental" attack's side effects. Your enemies are continuously refining their weaponry. What used to be enough, won't be in the future.
In the early stages of the game very little of a particular resistance is needed to avoid the side effects. Later on the percentage rises as you meet more powerful enemies. If this can be realized with the 3.0 system, the percentage needed should depend the level of the attacking monster as well as the amount of damage. A higher level monster presumably can focus its attack to a better effect and has access to more recent technology.
Mental stability skill protects from mental attacks. Others need armor to shield from.
