Description
The module is obviouly be set in the Ancient, Mythic greece, and obviously heavily feature material from the myths, with perhaps some original things.
The background and actual storyline is going to be somewhat vague - you could be the one who does these quests and kill these monsters instead of the original heroes, or perhaps there were some problems in Hades and many already-killed Heroes and Monsters returned to life and you have to help them.
The 'main quest' would be to ascend to Olympus and join the Gods, or, possibly, to join with the Titan to overthrow the olympians. Both of these main quests would requires the character to succeed at many other small quests, however.
Races
- Human
- Satyr(male only)
- Nymph(female only)
- Centaur: +Str, +Con, -Dex, +walking speed. They can't wear some equipment, but I might bother making some kind of 'barding'cloak only they can wear. Might be interesting split them in two subraces, one of civilized ones and another of savages, with -Int/Wis/Cha(or you might just pick 'Barbarian').
- Cyclops: Penalties to searching, perception, throwing and ranged weapons, not very charismatic or intelligence, but still very big and strong. Being man-eaters, Cyclops might be able to gain some extra nutrition and healing from eating some corpses - though most gods won't like that, except maybe Poseidon who, being their father, will 'turn a blind eye'for them and Ares, who actually likes this kind of savagery.
Special Modifiers
- Demigod: There would actually be more than one racial modifiers, to rapresent the strength of your divine bloodline. Most if not all heroes from the myths were at least distantly related to a God, so this is probably what you would like to play. You might chose to play a distant descendant of Aphrodite or a Son of Zeus like Heracles, or many other possible combinations of divine ancestor and bloodline strength.
Regardless of their deity, Demigods should get a bonus to Constitution and Charisma, since they are both more fascinating and sturdier than common mortals. They usually also have an easier time gaining their divine ancestor's favor, also based on how closely they are related to him/her.
Classes
- Fighter:
- Warrior
- Wrestler: Relies less on his equipment and more on his body.
- Archer: Relies on slings and bows - has the same skill mod for both
- Rogue: Thieves stealthy characters where actually rather common in the Greek Myths.
- Sorceress: Mostly based on potions, staves and wands. The myths mention no male sorceror, so we might make this a female-only class.
- Priest/Priestess: Priests have a much easier time dealing with their own deity.
- Sage: Like Loremasters
- Musician: Like Orpheus, would play his lyre/flute to soothe beasts and other monsters, or to make his travelling companions better fighters.
Gods
These are going to be very important, much more so than in a normal ToMe game.
First of all, character should be able to have different amounts of grace for different deities, but some deities might be jealous and/or not like each other - for example Ares might dislike someone who worships Athena. The character would only be able to pray or make sacrifices to a single deity at once, though some deities might give their help even when you are not praying them. Also, different quests will increase or decrease your grace with different deities.
Zeus
- Zeus is the King of the Gods, and the Ruler of Olympus.
- As you increase your piety, Zeus will grant bonuses to your Wisdom and Charisma.
- Zeus likes his own descendants and numerous sons even more than the other gods.
- Charisma is twice as important to Zeus as it is with the other gods.
- If Zeus is angry at you, he might strike you with his thunderbolts.
- Zeus Prayers:
- These would be somewhat varied. Since he was the God of Thunder and he also often changed his form to court mortal women, some ideas
- Thunderbolt: Actually creates a 'Thunderbolt'item the player can keep for some skill-based time before throwing it for lots of damage.
- Shape of the Swan
- Shape of the Bull
- Call Lighting: Basic lighting bolt-shooting.
Ares
- Ares is the God of War, Strife and Bloodlust.
- As you increase your piety, Ares will grant bonuses to your Strength and Constitution, but his savagery will reduce your own Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.
- Ares likes Barbarians and killing.
- Ares dislikes worshippers of Athena.
- Ares Prayers:
- Battle Rage
- Aura of Fear
- Hephaestus
- Hephaestus is the God of Fire and and Blacksmithing.
- As you increase your piety, Hephaestus will grant you bonuses to Constitution.
- If you are praying to him and your piety is high enough, Hephaestus will grant you resistance to fire.
- If he really likes you, he might gift you with an excellent weapon or armor, or perhaps permanently enhance your own.
- If he dislikes you, he might curse your equipment.
- Hephaestus prayers:
- Weapon of Hephaestus: Your weapon gains extra fire damage
- Armor of Hephaestus: If you are wearing armor, it becomes much sturdier
- Detect Metal
Athena
- Athena is the God of Honorable War and Wisdom
- As you increase your piety, Athena will grant bonuses to your Constitution and Wisdom, and will eventually make you immune to fear.
- Athena dislikes worshippers of Ares and Barbarians.
- Athena dislikes the killing of good-aligned beings.
- Athena Prayers:
- Spear of Athena
- Shield of Athena: Timed effect which can deflect blows
- Athena's Blessing
Hermes
- Hermes is the God of Thieves, Rogues and Messengers.
- As you increase your piety, Hermes will grant bonuses to your Dexterity and Charisma.
- At high enough levels of piety, Hermes will increase your walking speed, especially when you are praying to him. [Bonus = (piety/500) normally, (piety/250)when praying, capped at +5/+10.
- Hermes likes Rogues and stealing, but he dislikes the killing of good-aligned beings.
- Hermes Prayers:
- Winged Stride
- Invisibility
- Thief's Blessing: Temporarily increases your stealthy skill
Poseidon
- Poseidon is the God of the Sea, but he also rules over Horses and Earthquakes.
- Poseidon will, based on your piety level, increase your movement speed while in water[walking speed = +(piety/200), max +10, this can be negative if he dislikes you].
- Poseidon likes Cyclopes.
- Poseidon dislikes/hates the killing of neutral/good horses, cyclopes and water creatures.
- Unpredictable like the sea, Poseidon can sometimes change his mood and become benevolent or malevolent without any actual reason.[perhaps a 1/1000 chance everry turn of losing or gaining up to 2d20x10 points of grace]
If he likes you, he might gift you with an excellent horse(IF riding is imported from ToMe)
- If angered at you and you are at sea, he will send storms and sea monsters. If you are on land, he might send earthquakes, but this is rarer.
- Poseidon Prayers:
- Sea's Bounty: If cast near water squares, creates either some food or, very rarely, a precious pearl which can be sold.
- Breathe Water
- Summon Horse
- Summon Sea Creatures: Must be cast near water squares, summons fishes, tritons, crabs and dolphins to help you.
- Earthquake
Hades
- Hades is the Lord of the Underworld and of the Dead. He's s quite strict, but he can, rarely, be moved to compassion and 'bend'the laws of his realm a little. He also has influence over treasures and gold, as they come from under the ground.
- Hades likes when you kill Shades who are outside his realm.
- If you find yourself having to escape from his realm, an higher/lower grace will make it easier/harder.
- Hades Prayers:
- Banish Shade
- Summon Shade
- Detect Gold
- Earth's Bounty: If the caster is underground and next to a stone wall, this will give him either a precious gemstone or some gold nuggets to sell.
Pan
- Pan is a merry God of the Woods and Nature.
- As you increase your piety, Pan increases your Charisma but slightly decreases your Wisdom.
- When you have reached an high enough level of grace with him, he allows you to walk over trees.
- Pan likes Musicians, Satyrs, Nymphs and Centaurs, and thus dislikes their killing, unless they are evil-aligned in nature. He also dislikes(though not as much)the killing of other good aligned-beings.
- Pan Prayers:
- Summon Animals
- Summon Satyrs: Summons a few satyrs to help you out - doesn't work underground
- Charm Animal
Hecate
- Hecate is the Goddess of Night and Magic, often worshipped by Sorceresses.
- As you increase your piety, Hecate increases your Charisma and Intelligence.
- As you increase your piety, Hecate grants you the ability to see in the dark.
- Hecate prefers women over men, especially Sorceresses.
- Worshipping Hecate improves your magic skills if you are praying her, especially if it's night.
- [bonus magic skill level: (piety/500)by day, (piety/250)by night, capped at +10/+20]
- If angered at you, she might send horrible monsters to attack you by night
- Hecate Prayers:
- She'll probably have few important prayers, but she will boost magic skill, remember.
- Hecate's Veil: Grants invisibility + an aura of confusion, but only when standing in a non-lighted square
- Nightmare: Confuses and scares most monsters
- Summon Night Beasts
Equipment
Gold coins -> Drakmas
This is the current to-do list for equipment - it's going to be much smaller than the ToMe one, obviously, since equipment won't be as important compared to skill or deities. Currently, I have only implemented armor and some weapons and potions.
- Body Armor: Leather Armor, Light Bronze Armor, Bronze Armor, Heavy Bronze Armor. These give damage absorption and some % resistance, and the heavier ones also give penalties to hitting and dodging.
- Helms: Leather helm, Bronze Helm.
- Sandals
- Melee Weapons: Dagger, Spear, Long Spear, Short Sword, Cutlass, Axe, Club, Greatclub, Sickle, Scythe, Hammer
Ranged Weapons: Short Bow->Hunting Bow->War Bow, Sling
- Thrown Weapons: Rocks, Boulders, Javelins, Thunderbolts,
- Shields: Peltes(small shield), Hoplos(large shield), Heavy Hoplos
- Idea: A bit complex, but perhaps rework shields, by giving each 3 flags.
- SHIELD_BLOCK: The base chance for this shield to block an average attack, modified by the wearer's skill and the attacker's level.
- SHIELD_HARDNESS: How much damage is subtracted from the attack before applying it to the shield's HPs.
- SHIELD_HP: How much damage the shield can take before breaking. If an attack breaks through your shield, the remaining damage should hurt you.
- Idea: A bit complex, but perhaps rework shields, by giving each 3 flags.
- Jewelry: Amulets, Talismans and maybe Girdles.
- Light sources: Torch, Lantern
- Torch of Prometheus: An ever-burning torch which has the eternal fire that Prometheus stole from the gods.
- Potions: various elixirs and philters, also includes magical wines
Some artifacts:
- Hide of the Nemean Lion: Provides large resistance to slashing and cutting, worn as a cloak, perhaps a minor boost to Str and Con or the ability to 'roar'to stun and scare enemies?.
- Helm of Hades: Invisibility, maybe allows you detect Shades/Magic Map Hades's Realm.
- Sandals of Hermes: Increased speed(maybe +1 global and +4 walking), flying.
- Aegis Shield: Very powerful shield
- Lyre of Orpheus
- The Poisoned Arrows of Hercules: these would be several artifacts all with the same stats. They'd never break and they cause heavy poison damage - an archer's dream come true.

I'm not sure if sub-weaponmasteries for melee combat will be in the game, in the end. If so, they will probably be Blades(knives, daggers and swords), Blunt(hammers and clubs)and Polearm(spears, tridents).
Dungeons
Dungeons might be interesting forests, swamps, abandoned shrines and temples and caves full of horrible monsters and their progeny.
- Hades's Realm: Populated by shades and spirits, some of whom might not be hostile and give you quests instead. If you die, you might have the chance to actually play your escape from this Realm instead of going to the death screen.

Obviously, lots of powerful mythic uniques, but some of these uniques might also have 'spawn', that are much weaker(but still formidable)versions of them.

Quests
(suggestions especially appreciated here) Prometheus Bound
- Assigned when: you enter a mountain range/dungeon and on the first level you hear Prometheus's voice asking you to free him.
- Quest: You'd have to find him after crossing a mountain dungeon, kill the giant eagle there and break his adamantine chains in some way.
- Reward: Possibly a permanent WIS and CHR boost, but you also lose piety towards Zeus, perhaps either a set amount or a %, whichever is more.
- Failure: Not possible, but see possible variant.
- Possible variant: Zeus instead gives you the quest to kill the titan using a specific weapon.
Cartographers Apply Here
It would be very, very good if someone who is good at map-drawing could come up with some maps. At the moment I would need a town map for a generic greek town, possibly big and with an open marketplace(that is, shop entrances aren't in walls but are on a square). Also very important is a wilderness map that at least vaguely resembles Greece.

Zonk: Thanks, Gerbil - these maps are veyr useful to me, only little problem was converting to the 3.x.x format, which basically meant using [[ instead of D:X and some symbol/tiles changes.

CosmicGerbil Oops, just found a lowecase v I'd accidently left on the map. I've changed it into a capital V.
Zonk: That wasn't much of a problem - I already had to fix the maps to get them to work...I noticed(emh...was told by DG)that starting from ToMe and removing things is awkard, so I re-started with Ode and I'm currently adding things - which gives a lot less problems, but takes a bit more time. Currently, the module works, but I really have to add a quest or two and completely redo the monster list. In the end though, this won't be a massive game - I'm leaning toward making a relatively small, but polished, enjoyable amd replayable, module, one that perhaps you could start and finish in less than a day, if you were so inclined. These decions have also been reflected in an update and cleaning of this page. I think I might release the first version in something more than a month - it will be playable and maybe winnable, although I don't know if all deities will have been implemented.

I am looking forward to the first release, Greek Myth sounds like it's going to be a really groovy game.
Zonk: I think the best thing for me would probably be to wait for the final 3.0.0 to come out, since updating with every alpha can sometimes be a big work - plus, I'd like to see how the Gods are done in ToMe, so I can do them in my module, and gods are going to be a VERY important part of the game.
Jimphraxia: I really like the sound of this, and have a few suggestions. =)
- Possibly have Apollo as another god for worship, offering a bonus to archers and musicians.
- Also Aphrodite, for charming/rogue characters? Obviously raises charisma, has strong charm spells, etc.
- Make Zeus's thunderbolt prayer spawn multiple thunderbolts, or a number adjusted by level.
- Artifacts like the Girdle of the Amazons, Mirror Shield of Perseus, etc.
- Prometheus' torch renamed to Prometheus' fennel.
