Heh, this one comes out of Mandos with better equipment than the last incarnation. This is my best character in a very long time. I just lack the focus these days on the game. Win enough times and the attentiveness drops I guess.
Update: Out of Mandos, I went around doing a bunch of quests, mostly to get things like bonus hit points, Potion of Augmentation, and some lines in the character sheet. Failed one: Maggot's quest is very hard with three companion Great Wyrms of Power.
After all that, did a very quick trip through Dol Guldur, saving Thrain along the way. Then straight into Angband, where I dove until I got the Crypt to pick up Luthien. Rough level for a Symbiant as always; Flare is essential. Even rougher when Atlas and the Mouth of Sauron show up. But I not only snagged the cloak, but I also got Wormtongue to fill the last empty slot in my equipment and give me zero fail spellcasting and symbiant powers. Zero fail teleport to is just so huge, and it's all mine.
Update 2: I barreled through Angband as fast as possible, recalling out immediately from the other special levels, as I'm content with my equipment once those last two slots were filled. Sauron was 10 squares in front of me when I hit his level, so I summoned up a wall while letting my GWoPs pound him. So he couldn't flee I then use the Rod of Home Summoning to pull out the Anchor. Then it was just a matter of dismissing pets once he was down to 1 HP, to hit him with a Manathrust.
Sauron was also nice enough to give up the One first try. On to the Cracks of Doom!
Update 3: Fought Gothmog in the level prior to the Cracks of Doom, huge battle, got Cubragol for my trouble, to my delight. It plugged my last resistance hole (Shards), added six speed to take me over +20 base speed (over +40 hasted with my wand), and is my first equipment *upgrade* since Mandos. Probably only, since I didn't want to wear the One and lose all my Eru spellcasting benefits.
Saved upon entering the Cracks of Doom level. It's going to be another toughie for a symbiant I'm sure.
Update 4: Game was delayed because of a bug in CVS. But I finished Cracks of Doom without any trouble (this time remembering NOT to rest on the Great Fire, because they damage you through fire immunity; i've lost two characters that way).
Then it was on to Sauron. No real trouble. Between him and a Giant pit though (Titans and Hrus leading) I lost two of the Great Wyrms of Power I'd had since Mandos. The drops after were a boatload of midgame artifacts. Two random artiacts stood out though: a reasonable random artifact mage staff, plus a shield with acid and cold immunity. Perfect combo. I could swap the staff for Taratol (losing Elec Imm), swap Vilya for Nenya (regaining Elec Imm, losing Cold Imm and ESP), swap the shield for Thorn (regaining Cold Imm). I get ESP from divination spells anyway so the actual net is 220 SP, 25 SN, 1 speed, and maxed Int and Con.
You don't get a clear-cut upgrade of endgame equipment often, but that shield had the exact two immunities to let me do it. Well, it had to be acid and cold or acid and fire, to let me swap in Vilya for either Nenya or Flare.
Update 5: Morgoth was not a problem. Lost a GWoP, but once he was clearly nearly dead, just swapped in and manathrusted.
If I wear the crown I gain ESP and a little Dex, but lose 3 speed. Pass, heh.
Update 6: Boy is the Void a real pain without magic breathing. Nether realm is annoying too, not quite so bad though because the levels are smaller in general and the stairs are easier to find.
Many many many castings of Heal Symbiote and Life Share later, Tikki is dead. My second killing of Tik'srvzllat , first since the creation of this ultra endings. BOY is this eternal weapon nice, heh. Of course Phasing is lovely. MAGIC BREATHING HOORAY! NO MORE CASTING LIFE SHARE EVERY 10 TURNS OR SO, HOORAY!
Update 7: And dead to a trap. Lesson learned: post-victory stuff is just tedious.
