I started out with a Human Sorcerer and a RohanKnight Swordmaster; both suffered the usual fate of characters played far too fast, dying easily-preventable deaths. I then started to DitL a Wood-Elf Ranger; we'll see how far he gets...
Well, DitL'ing a character apparently helps prevent stupid deaths, because I stopped DitL'ing him, and he promptly died to my overconfidence.
Now running a Hobbit Hermit Sorceror, who's preparing to take on Sauron, and a Dark-Elf Mindcrafter who's learning the tricks of the Mindcraft trade.
My Mindcrafter just had something interesting happen to him. The RNG has been unkind in the early game, handing out not one single weapon store with a cap of more than 10K. But I think it's feeling guilty, because it's making up for it in fates. After getting a boring first fate (to meet an aimless-looking merchant on some level I don't remember), his second fate was to find The Cloak 'Holcolleth' on level 9. Then the Beastmaster quest sent me hunting for the corpse of a Mature Black Dragon. I started hunting around in the hills north of Bree, and the umpteenth Mature Black Dragon finally dropped a corpse. I lugged it all the way back to Lothlorien (temporarily forgetting about the fact that I could have just hacked off a piece -- but since I didn't have acid immunity, it was just as well), and during the trip I got no less than three "More of your prophecy has been uncovered!" messages. So I checked in with Galadriel to find out what my new fate was, and discovered...
You are fated to meet a Soldier ant on level 1. <-- Already had this one You are fated to find The Pair of Soft Leather Boots 'Dal-i-thalion' on level 3. You are fated to find a Scroll of Detect Invisible on level 19. You are fated to find The Dagger 'Dethanc' on level 1.
"'Thancs", RNG!
