SoulWynd: I'm trying to make a winner *cough* out of this one... Besides the serious lack of hp, what else do I need? Also, where should I go next?

MayLith: Are you playing a module? I've never seen a cloak of Mist before. Nice armor -- heavy, I bet, but you need all the hitpoints you can get.

I'm no expert on sorcerors, but I see a serious lack of mana. Lose the Mage Staff of Spell and substitute one of Mana, Power, or Wizardry (preferably the last.) You might as well sell all those fancy weapons and the heavy armor, as you'll never use them.

If it was me, I'd lose that Amulet of Brilliance and go for Toris Megistos. YMMV.

RavenRed: Maylith - Cloak of Mist is one of the new Mimic Forms. They've got excellent stealth, excellent armour class and some nifty resists. They're also incredibly useless for Melee, which makes them a natural fit for sorcerors. Soulwynd - I agree with Maylith re: the mana, but see HP as something you REALLY need to beef up. Find a nice Symbiant and scum for CON potions. The RandArt armour is bloody nice though!

MayLith: RavenRed, that still doesn't tell me what version and/or module it is. :) And perhaps I didn't stress the need for HP enough. I know sorcerors have a penalty, but at the rate you're going, Trone is going to have you for lunch!

SoulWynd: I expect to have a Symbiant before trying anything nasty. The rebel thunderlord, whatever his name was, was a real pain as it is.

MayLith: Just beware, as there's two thunderlord quests. Trone is the guardian of the bottom level of Sacred Land of Mountains (q.v.). The other quest is the one you get on hitting CL... what is it, 35?

SoulWynd: Oh, Trone? I already killed him, along with 3 undead uniques there. I'm doing Mordor now, trying to find good fumblefinger quests, gotta kill 17 ancient multi-hued dragons now. RNG hates me so much that the FF guest just down stairs is the same thing, 20 ancient multi-hued dragons. It take 3 manathrusts to kill each one of them. Hopefuly I will get the last symbiosis bonus I need.

MayLith: AMHDs are pretty penny-ante in Mordor. It's the Wyrms and Nycadaemons you have to look out for ;-). Good luck on getting that mod! What is your manathrust at currently?

SoulWynd: My FF quest are 17 Skull Drujs! Gotta be really careful and abuse every los tactics there is. My manathrust is at level 68, 34 mana, 0% fail, dam 71d28 ... Min: 71, Avg: 994, Max: 1988

MayLith: Nice! My L50 priest has manathrust at only 59d23, but she's wiping the floor with *everyone* she encounters (so far), so I have no complaints. :) Re: Skull Druj, you want:

  1. anti-summoning
  2. cure insanity
  3. resist nether
  4. healing ('cos they also do water and mortal wounds damage)
  5. trap detection
  6. oh yes, and speed wouldn't hurt

Why haven't you invested in Prayer via the god quests? Eru'll give you Lay of Protection, which is extremely handy!

SoulWynd: I'm 'abusing' the los quirks, ie; Using corners, digging around, etc. They have hit me only once and I have only 5 left. I'm doing it slowly so I don't get that character killed :p ... One hit me with the water attack when I was kind of careless and left me with 20hp or so! Scary. I have +28 speed atm because I'm carrying heavy stuff. I only got 3 god quests so far, I'm considering killing the drujs and doing the 3rd one so I open space for the next one. They're easy with the vision spell. I don't remember how many god quests you get, but if it's 8, they will give me 20 prayer, which is pretty good for someone who never invested any points in it.

MayLith: Down to 20hp?!? Holy cow! I know Sorcerors have a heavy HP penalty, but you need to up your CON somehow, I think, or be a lot more cautious. There's only 5 god quests, but the last one gives you bonus points. You can get Prayer up to 50 with only minor to moderate expenditure of skill points. You need a minimum prayer level of 35 to cast Lay of Protection.

What LoP does, by the way, is lay down glyphs of protection in a 2-deep circle all around you. That prevents summoning (so long as you stay at the center of the circle -- the Anchor helps there) and will ward off most evil creatures. Some may break the glyphs, but it does slow them down. If you have the ability to create directed void jumpgates, creating linked series of jumpgates surrounded by LoP can be a lifesaver. Just be cautious and don't use LoP haphazardly, as it *does* cost a fair amount of piety. OTOH, I've learned that it's better to spend it and stay alive <g>.

NeilStevens: A Dark Elf Hermit with many points in Sorcery essentially has a triple HP penalty. Boosting Constitution won't really do much for max hit points. Speed, detection, spellbinder, stone prison, recall, and extreme caution are needed instead.

SoulWynd: I did get up to 300 hp now with all the quests and some con potions. I just updated the dump btw, it seems I'm doing fine but some bone golems are giving me trouble right now. Detection and spellbinder are a must... Spell-binder with healing 53% is pretty safe while nothing instakills.

SoulWynd: Just updated, I gotta say some of my new findings are great. The magestaff of power +9 (I wish it was wizardry), The Elfstone 'Elessar' and The Arkenstone of Thrain. I got rid of the +5 int necklace, so I gotta hunt for int potions now. My hp is way higher! :) At least things wont insta-kill me anymore (I hope)... My manathrust is at lvl 79, 38 mana, 1% fail and dam 82d32 ... Min 82, avg 1312, max 2624 ... Quite a punch and I can cast almost 20 of those in a row :) My speed is above 30 when running and I can push it above 50 if I need to. It wont make much of a diference tho.

SoulWynd: Updated again (no home inv this time, too big), I'm in angband looking for the one ring... Really hard quests there.
