The Ring of Precognition
This magical ring will allow you to know what will happen in the near future.
It cannot be harmed by acid, cold, lightning or fire.
Powers
If you wear this ring, then when you first enter a new dungeon level, leave overland travel for the Wilderness, or enter a shop, you will be told via a message of the following:
- if a dungeon level, then:
- the size and type (arena, destroyed, magical level) of the dungeon level you have just entered
- presence and size of vaults, if any
- presence of monster nests and pits, if any; sometimes the contents of a pit is listed (e.g. "ordered clones")
- presence of streamers (rivers, lava rivers, sand veins), if any
- why level generation restarted
- if a wilderness level, whether the level is magical
- the presence of some items on the level, potentially including items carried by monsters. These items may include:
- "Items" such as runes, wands, scrolls etc., as well as some exceptional items such as Dragon Armour, Rings of Speed, some rare Amulets, etc. These are named (e.g. Scroll of Dispel Undead). For some weird reason, a Shadow Blade fell into this category -- might be a bug.
- "Ego-item"s. Weapons, armour, etc are named but not fully specified (e.g. Hatchet of *Slay Demon*).
- Artifacts
- the presence of any out-of-depth monsters or uniques, and of monster hordes.
If it's a shop, you'll be told of any ego-items, etc., that it may contain when you enter. This does not work for the Mathom House.
All of this precedes the normal level feeling.
The listing of items and monsters is staggered, so if you see that a vault is present, it is likely (though not a surety) that the items/critters listed just after the vault are probably in the vault, or an item is carried by a monster in the vault.
Chatter
MayLith: It's unclear to me yet, but I don't *think* the Precog Ring covers all monster drops. I've only started to play with my new toy, so I may have missed something, but it's a start. This little ring is way cool. *Evil grin*
MassimilianoMarangio: It's like turning on the cheat_peek, cheat_hear and cheet_room cheating options, without marking the savefile.
Christopher: Or more accuratly, it's like turning on the cheat_peek, cheat_hear and cheet_room cheating options *without cheating*!
MayLith: That's what MM just said.
ChrisAmes: 'without marking the savefile' seems to me to *imply* cheating.
ZasVid: With ironman_rooms it's annoying as nether realm, because it displays everything that was generated, then generation is restarted, then it displays again everything, generation restarted (too many objects) and so on. Finally it allows to enter the level, but I pressed space for few *minutes* to get through pointless messages :/
MayLith: I just had that happen to me :? My Precog listing showed monster pit (ordered clones), then a long list of dragon types. Then a huge list of ego-items and the Quarterstaff of Olorin. Then it all compacted itself again. I didn't scour the level for it, but would the quarterstaff have been preserved through the compaction?
FuriousOne: If it was 'generation restarted, too many objects', then there's no more quarterstaff on the level, unless you see it again in the list of objects. If you have preserve mode on (which I know you always do), you'll see it again - if preserve mode is off, you may have lost it for good - not sure on that one. But if it's 'compacting objects' due to doo many monster drops while you're on the level, then it may still be there somewhere.
