Dark Priests can become powerful melee fighters. Pumping Necromancy gives several useful abilities, with Horrify and Necromantic Teeth being particularly useful for Princess/FF quests early on. The worship of Melko means getting the melee auto-curse ability when at high piety, allowing you to put out some serious damage. Piety will be a problem in the very early game, but once you clear the Barrow Downs and are killing swathes of monsters in the Orc Caves then it will shoot right up.

Just to be in character, *always* attack those do-gooder oafs like Gandalf, Fundin Bluecloak, Fangorn, High Elf Rangers, etc etc, when you see them. Nothing amuses me more than smashing Gandalf's wrinkly head hard against the dungeon floor, again and again and again, or taking that Burning Poleaxe to Fangorn's grimy old trunk. [-evil laugh-].
