Mordor

Getting there

Mordor is near Cirith Ungol and Minas Anor. From Bree, head south to the sourthern end of the Moria mountain range, then south-east. You're between two mountain ranges, keep going south to where they narrow. Following the river south, you'll pass Cirith Ungol and Minas Anor, and see the purple '>' marking the entrance in the eastern mountain range. The correct entrance is labeled "a door to the Land of Mordor". You must be fifteenth level to enter.

Physical aspects

Granite walls and mountain chains form the walls, with occasional quartz inclusions and floors of ash and dirt. Corridors are one square wide, as are fountains and traps. There may be lava streamers or sections of corridors and rooms filled with lava. A normal dungeon with the note 'Mdr' next to your depth.

Quests and Towns

One can receive Princess Quests and Fumblefingers Quests inside. But there aren't any towns. This is one of the principal dungeons in the main plotline, coming after the Barrowdowns and Mirkwood, but before Angband

Monsters and Danger Level

It spans levels 34 to 66. (1700 to 3300 feet). It appears to have a 'normal' monster distribution. (No special emphasis on the undead, giants, dragons, etc.)

Teleport

Phase Door, Teleport, Probability Travel, and Recall work fine.

Guardian and Special Levels

There is no special guardian or special treasure inside Mordor proper, though there is access to /MtDoom on level 65.

Chatter

ShrikeDeCil: Mordor exists in ToME 2.3.3, but is renamed to Barad-dur (The Dark Tower) for ToME 3 (or so I hear).

Actius: You really should have resist poison (and elemental resists: fire/cold/acid/lightning) before spending much time here.

VeryFoobar: A method of dealing with lava streamers is also useful. Some examples: Fire immunity, Character Armour (with fire resist), Grow Trees, Destruction. Less efficient: Lay of Protection, Stone Prison, Wall Creation, Fireflash, the various teleports.
