Floor Inscriptions

It is possible to inscribe words on the floor in ToME. If you happen to be lucky and inscribe a spell formula from another language, the inscription will use the floor's mana to cast that spell when either you walk over it, a monster walks over it, or both walk over it. Not all inscriptions are triggered by monsters, and not all can be triggered by the player.

In order to write an inscription in another language, you must first have found and read a parchment with some of that language's words upon it. So, just copying the inscriptions here won't work unless you have read the words on a parchment first.

Discussion

Johenius: Is using floor inscriptions considered cheating? I've seen a few DitL'ers using them, but always considered it a bit scummy...

ZV:Why, no. They're not too powerful, it ain't very easy to get them, not every grid has enough mana to use them and it can be bothersome to type them (yeah, I know, macros).

MassimilianoMarangio: Remember also that using an inscription takes a lot of time (e.g. 3 rounds for a character with speed 0).

HarryErwin: Is there any reason to keep the parchments?

JaekTheBarbarian: Are the dwarves that are summoned supposed to be level 0? Or could this be a side effect from being summoned in Mandos?

KermitCrill: I finally remembered to try this as a regular Mage in Rhun and it looks like they start at level 0 everywhere. They still appear to have decent fighting ability, but not overpowering.
