Bounty quests are given by the Beastmaster. There are Beastmasters in Lothlorien and Minas Anor.

Some quests are trickier than you might think. For example, there are two types of some monsters (e.g. novice rangers). One type appears as a solitary monster, the other appears in groups. The corpse of one kind cannot be substituted for the other in a bounty quest.

Some other quests are very difficult due to monster rarity or monster level. A difficult quest is a random occurence; you are not being picked on. The reward is valuable to some characters, and if you want it, you need to earn it.

To fulfill a bounty quest, bring the requested corpse (or hacked meat of it) back to the Beastmaster. Speak to the Beastmaster a second time to obtain a new quest.

Bounty monsters are randomly chosen, but they're (loosely) based on your experience level. The following types of monsters are ineligible for selection: uniques, corpse-less monsters, specially generated monsters, monsters that are automatically pets or friendly, breeders, joke monsters, and good monsters. Anything else is fair game.

The reward: If you don't yet know the Monster-lore skill, you will be taught it (with multiplier 0.900). If you don't yet know the Corpse-preservation skill, you will be taught it (with multiplier 0.800). You will also be given one skill point in Monster-lore for each corpse returned.

Note: This quest was changed in ToME 2.0.0, previous versions had a different quest.

Chatter

MayLith: Things I don't recall immediately (please delete as you correct it):

ReenenLaurie: I don't think there's a max, but most classes has +0.500 so completing 100 quests may take a while.

(some newbie) : What are the odds of a monster dropping a corpse in relation to your Corpse-preservation skill. I tried a Bounty Quest at 0 in it and none of the 15 or so Large white snake dropped one.

FearofFours: See http://www.killerbunnies.org/angband/skill-230.html#preserv for more, but basically, it's a 10% chance with skill at 0. You were perhaps a tad unlucky. Keep trying.

Torrenal: Grr. Beastmaster asked me for a Novice Mage corpse. I ran off and got one. Only, when I go to turn in the corpse it says I have no corpse to turn in. Should I club the beastmaster upside the head with it?

LukeHaub: Read the second line of the spoiler. There are two types of certain monsters, one that apears alone and another that appears in groups.

Torrenal: Gak. A fair cop. Ok, next up, to find me a novice mage who's wandered away from his group.
