My zombie Hobbit got the black breath from fighting a ringwraith. I deleted the character in anger without thinking! I'm not the only one doing so...
Is the resistance to black breath Hobbits are supposed to have limited to classical hobbits? Why did I get black breath at every opportunity if I have at least resistance(I'm not expecting immunity)?
Hobbits have the best ability bonuses total (searching, trap detection, magic device, etc) in the game. This alone might be worth it in older versions. The -10 melee and low hit dice (7) will hurt warriors who don't pick zombie to sort of compensate... but in 2.3.0 most racial ability bonuses are gone so Hobbits are *WEAKLINGS* with no compensation better than their +5 luck! And the cooking skill that helps you not starve where monsters don't drop corpse(experienced players don't need cooking - newbies can't use it yet).
The sling skill bonus looks nice, but slings are NEVER VERY POWERFUL at least in 2.2.7 (even artifact ones).
Bandobras: They say, magic device ability only applies to rods and activations in 2.2.7. They also say, black breath resistance is only a resistance, not the immunity. I would like it changed, too.
Simon: Hobbits being what they are, they should get some kind of bonus or be considered for extra score for playing an "expert" race.
Derakon: Hobbits have excellent racial stat modifiers (boosts to everything except strength, which only takes a -2 penalty), a significant stealth boost, good spirituality, +5 to luck, and a measily 10% experience penalty. The only bad thing about them is the 7 hit dice. Granted that I've been playing a lot of hobbit mages lately, who will die easily because they have so few hitpoints, hobbits are still not bad races in the slightest. That +5 to luck really makes a difference when it comes to getting good loot; just check out the luck spoilers to see what all it affects.
I don't think that hobbits need a boost or extra score; they aren't one of the uber races, but they aren't bad in the slightest.
NeilStevens: I love hobbits, and let me add, I added a sling in 2.3: the Sling of the Thain.
