Style Guide
Language
- ToME is an English-language game and this wiki follows suit. Game words and documentation should prefer Tolkien's English, but variants like American English are acceptable especially in signed contributions.
Content
- Controversial topics unrelated to the game are to be avoided, even in passing as a joke. This wiki should not be hostile to anyone who plays the game.
- Spoilers of plot, items, or monsters should be kept out of the non-spoiler sections of the wiki.
- Polls and other toys should be used in moderation.
- Stub pages should only be created when they will be useful to be filled in and relevant to the game.
Diction
- Civil words are required. Keep every page suitable for children, as this is a game that should be accessible to children.
Formality
The third person should be used for major documents, but this wiki is open to chatter and socialization. Acronyms, "smilies", and other personal touches are accepted. Moderation in their use is appreciated, though.
Spelling
- New pages should have their titles spelled correctly, preferring the spellings of words used in the game. Example: use "artifact" not "artefact."
- Spelling of game terms in general should be kept uniform with existing uses on this site to allow searches to work correctly.
Form
- Wiki mark-up should be used in a way that lets the site software lay out the page clearly with all site themes, as well as in non-HTML formats. Use markup for organization, not appearance.
- Do not, under any circumstances, use tables to lay out anything other than an array of data.
Do not use {{{ ... }}} monospace mark-up as a block quote.
- Monospace mark-up should be used to post the following materials:
- game code
- character sheets
- ASCII screen shots and screen shot simulations
- Monospace mark-up should be used to post the following materials:
To display verse or similar text that has line breaks within a paragraph, use the [[BR()]] macro.
- Headings should be used in a way that makes a table of contents useful.
- Links should have useful text names, instead of saying something like "click here."
Use wiki:Self instead of wiki:ToME for links of that form, because the former is picked up by other wiki services like OrphanedPages.
Names
WikiCase names for pages are discouraged when possible.
- Real names for submitters are encouraged, but not required.
