Me

The name is Vagabond, or in short form: Bond. My rl first name is Robert. I'm a 28 years old software engineer, I'm living in Budapest, Hungary, and playing Tome since 2.x.y with some short/long pauses. I love to think that I know the source of Tome almost as much as the developers. (And this is obviously not true )

To make a short story short, one day my roommate and I was talking about ADOM, about how boring it became, and so on, and we decided that we should try to find an other rogue-like. I was voting on Omega, which could be a great game, but still unfinished after so many years. My roommate found ToME and for a few days (while I was playing with Omega) I always heard about the new and interesting things he found. And then, the day came when I tried it out.

Two weeks later we felt that we should clean the flat, do the washing up, and do some other boring things. That's how I became an addict.

Characters

My characters are here on oook. These are only some of the already dead or dying.

Game facts about me:

• Favorite race: High-Elf
• Favorite classes: Possessors
• Favorite god: Tulkas
• Wins: none (yet?)
• Best character: Tersac, lvl 50 Rohanknight Paladin (so much of favorite classes)
• Favorite finds: Sentient daggers
• Game habits:

  • Slow diving, reasons can be found at MayLith

• Stupidest death: "What can this 'Death' activation mean? What's the worst that can happen anyway?"
• Stupidest bad game habit: "A bunch of monsters. Ok, I'll press the [left|right|up|down] arrow *HARD*."
• Most interesting character idea (MICI): Possessor in a body without weapon slots, like a Great Crystal Drake. Whatever you think it can be easily played to lvl 40. For example, you have to pay no skill points to any combat skill. (I give no more details here) I just realized today that dig wands can open doors too, so much more bodies are good for this.

• Biggest unluck ever: My current character (Tonje) made clvl 45 right after killing Saruman. Thanks to the Maeglin quest, I had to choose: I stay and let Gondolin fall or I go and leave the Palanthir back. Of course I went to Gondolin.

Currently active character(s):

• The character I *was* paying the most attention to was Tonje, High-Elf Demonologist.

• I'm trying again my MICI. Here he is: Gar, hobbit summoner. Local copy: /Gar

• After MICI ungloriously died, I turned to 2.3.0. It's very interesting, but sometimes hard. I'm lacking my abilities of disarming traps. But there is a good use for this.. Check his inventory: /Terac. To be up-to-date, I upload him every day on the ladder. Here is the link: Terac

• Terac became a highly respected but (sadly) dead ancestor of Tersac, who seems to be more successful ATM. At least, he reached lvl 50 and diving down in Mt. Doom to get the Ring. Now, he is on the ladder.

MayLith: Works for me; I took ideas from at least a few other pages as well as my own material. Cheers.

VagaBond: By the way, what does DitL'ing mean?

BurbLulls: Day In The Life it stands for, it's when people make little diaries of stories of what their characters do and post it here, or on the forum. How could I not respond to someone who likes High-Elves and Tulkas? One of us... erm... one of me...

• Bond: Oh yes, I know the thing from the forum. My first idea was Detail-ing, which is actually not a bad guess. We see some detailed character actually.

ErintiAkairis: Us. Worry not, you're not alone - almost all of my characters were Tulkas-worshipping High-Elven swordmasters for a goodly while (until I started playing Theme nonstop and discovered the wonders of Mandos, anyway).

BurbLulls: Just had an odd thought about Tulkas. In Theme his spouse Nessa can actually be found in the wilderness every now and then. This one time I was worshipping Tulkas she was in the way of the potions shop so I had to push her out of the way. Wouldn't my grace with Tulkas *slightly* suffer for pushing around his wife?

FuriousOne: I liked your story about discovering ToME! I was somewhat in a similar predicament after finding ToME myself, hee! I should copy MayLith and VagaBond and put a list of game facts on my page. *wanders off*

VagaBond: I put a bit of work to here: /Drafts. I try to update these sometimes, and move the old stuff to its right place.
